Why Your RV Won't Cool Down (And What To Do About It)

Welcome to Stories from the Road fellow travelers,

Why won't your RV cool down on a 100-degree day? Why does your refrigerator seem to struggle when summer temperatures soar?

In this episode of the RV Podcast, we are joined by Will Troyer, Director of Product Management for GE Appliances Recreational Living Division, for a timely and practical discussion about keeping your RV comfortable during hot-weather camping.

Will explains how RV air conditioners and refrigerators differ from the appliances in your home, why they sometimes struggle in extreme heat, and the simple steps RV owners can take to improve performance.

In this episode you'll learn:

✅ Why RV air conditioners can't cool like residential systems

✅ The biggest mistakes RVers make in hot weather

RV Lifestyle TIP of the Day:
Your Tires Have an Expiration Date

Most RVers focus on tread depth when inspecting tires, but age is often the bigger danger. RV tires can look perfectly fine on the outside and still be dangerously degraded inside. Most tire manufacturers recommend replacing RV tires every 5-7 years regardless of tread condition, and some recommend even sooner for rigs that sit in the sun.

Check the DOT code on the tire sidewall. The last four digits tell you the week and year of manufacture. If your tires are pushing six or seven years old, budget for replacement before your next major trip. The cost of new tires is a fraction of what a blowout can cost in damage, towing, and lost travel time.
