Sneaky Campground Fee Tricks, RV Consignment Fraud, RV Luxury Tax, China RV Boom

Good Monday morning!

It’s hard to believe Easter weekend has already come and gone.

We hope yours was filled with the same kind of joy, reflection, and family time that made ours so special.

For us, this season in Florida has been a gift. These past three months have given us something we rarely get when we are constantly on the move: time to slow down just enough to really focus. We have been writing, building, creating new travel guides, and working behind the scenes on some new tools and apps that we cannot wait to share with you.

But the best part? Family.

Over the past few weeks, we had two of our kids and four grandkids here for their separate spring breaks, and as always, they reminded us what really matters. There were sandy shoes by the door, laughter echoing through the condo, and more than a few “just one more story” moments before bedtime. One evening, we all walked down to the beach just before sunset. The kids were chasing waves, the sky was glowing that soft Florida gold, and for a little while, everything else just faded away.

Those are the moments you wish you could bottle up.

Now we are heading into our final two weeks here before we hitch up again and hit the road. Travel season is about to kick into full gear, and we are excited for what is ahead, including getting ready for our next live workshop on April 16. We have been putting a lot into that, and if you are looking to sharpen your RV skills and confidence, we would love to have you join us.

It's at 7 PM EDT April 16. This one is all about How to Book Campgrounds Without The Stress, and we'll offer some great inside tips on booking the right spot at the time you want.

https://RVLifestyle.com/workshop

It’s just $10 to attend, but if you’re a member of the RV Lifestyle Community, it’s completely free, one of the perks of membership.

Campground reservations have become one of the most frustrating parts of RV travel. Popular state parks, national parks, and waterfront campgrounds can disappear in seconds. Even when you log in right when the reservation window opens, it can still feel like you are competing in a high-speed lottery.

I will share ways to beat the system, plan smarter, and dramatically improve your odds of getting the spot you want.

We hope to see you at the workshop…

But for now, we are soaking up these last Florida days, grateful for the warmth, the memories, and a season that has been as productive as it has been meaningful. But we can't wait to hit the road again.

Happy Trails!
Mike and Jen

The RV Podcast: Monday News Edition

This Week on the RV Podcast News Edition

Campgrounds are pulling tricks you need to know about. It's getting ridiculous. We'll tell you how to fight back.

That California RV fraud case involving RVs sold on consignment just got a lot bigger - and a lot worse. It turns out to be a nationwide problem, with very few of the fraud protection measures that automotive sellers get when they sell on consignment.

Diesel prices are now nearing $6 a gallon. Some experts are predicting $7 by summer - unless the Iran war ends and Middle East Oil flows again. Those are big ifs, and RVers are starting to cancel their trips.

Washington State just tried to quietly hit motorhome buyers with a tax that has nothing to do with luxury. It's been put on a six-month hold because of public pressure, but it still may happen. Other states are watching this to see if they can do the same thing.

And there's a new all-electric campervan from the other side of the world that might just change how you think about where the RV industry is heading.

Your First Night in an RV: What to Expect and How to Relax

You’ve planned the trip.
You’ve packed the RV.
You finally pull into the campground……and then night falls.

And suddenly, everything feels different.

The sounds.
The space.
The bed.
Even the silence.

If your first night in an RV felt a little… off, you are not alone.

In fact, most first-time RVers go through the exact same thing, a mix of excitement, unfamiliar noises, and just trying to figure out where everything is.

That’s exactly why we wrote this:

Read: Your First Night in an RV (What to Expect and How to Relax)

Inside, we walk you through:

• Why your brain struggles to settle that first night
• The simple mistake that makes it way more stressful than it needs to be
• How arriving earlier can completely change the experience
• The normal RV sounds that freak beginners out (but shouldn’t)
• Easy ways to feel comfortable faste

Here’s the truth most people don’t tell you:

Your first night is not about sleeping perfectly.
It’s about adjusting.

And once you get through it, everything starts to click.

If you’re planning your first trip, or just remember that “what did we get ourselves into?” feeling, this will help you relax into the experience and enjoy it a whole lot more.

Book of the Week: The Ultimate Pacific Coast Highway RV Travel Guide

The Pacific Coast Highway is one of the greatest road trips in North America.

But it is not a trip you want to “figure out as you go.”

From Washington to California, this iconic route delivers jaw-dropping views at every turn, but it also comes with tight curves, tricky sections, limited campground availability, and some real challenges for RVers who are not prepared.

That is exactly why we put this together.

Spanning Washington, Oregon, and California across 11 carefully planned stops, our Pacific Coast Highway Guide takes you from the rainforests of Olympic National Park to the beaches of San Diego, with a clear, step-by-step plan to help you do it right.

Because here is the truth:

Big Sur can rattle even experienced RVers.
San Francisco requires strategy.
Malibu can catch large rigs off guard.
And coastal campgrounds often book out months in advance.

The difference between an unforgettable adventure and a stressful trip comes down to preparation.

This 97-page guide walks you through it all so you can focus on the journey, not the logistics.

RV TIP OF THE WEEK:

Learn the Power Math: Mastering 30-Amp RV Living
Most smaller travel trailers, Class B vans, and many Class C motorhomes run on 30-amp service. And if you understand how that power works, you’ll avoid one of the most common frustrations in RVing.

Here’s the math: 30 amps gives you about 3,600 watts total. That’s your entire power budget at the campsite.

Now break it down. Your air conditioner can pull 1,500 to 2,000 watts when it kicks on. A microwave? Around 1,000 to 1,500 watts. Coffee maker, hair dryer, space heater, all in that same high-draw category. It adds up fast.

That means it’s not about what you can run, it’s about what you can run at the same time.

Run the A/C and microwave together? Maybe.
Add the coffee maker at the same time? Probably not.
Throw in a hair dryer? You’re almost guaranteed to trip a breaker.

That’s the 30-amp lifestyle. It’s a balancing act.

Experienced RVers get into a rhythm. Brew coffee first. Then use the microwave. Turn the A/C off for a few minutes if needed. It’s not hard, it just takes awareness.

Push past your limit, and everything shuts down. Lights out, dinner half-cooked, and a quick walk outside to reset the breaker.

But once you learn the power math, it all clicks.
Plan your usage, stagger your loads, and you’ll stay comfortable, caffeinated, and in control.
