Inspect Roof Seals Twice a Year
Water damage is the single most expensive repair category in RV ownership, and most of it starts with a failed roof seal around a vent, skylight, or antenna. A small crack that lets in moisture for a season can rot out wall panels, floor joists, and insulation before you even notice it from the inside.
Get on the roof in the spring and again in the fall. Look for any sealant that is cracked, pulling away, or discolored. Self-leveling sealant runs about $10 a tube and takes 20 minutes to apply. Pay special attention to seams where dissimilar materials meet, those are the first places to fail. A half hour of prevention twice a year beats a $5,000 repair bill.
